Happy Anniversary Sabs-Bins!!

Happy Anniv Sabi - Binoy...Ho yeah the same couple who keep popping in into all my posts! Well this time they arent really popping in as this is dedicated to them on their anniversary!

Grrrr....I hv spent last 30 mins trying to write a post befitting the occasion but being poetic or singing praises is just not my cup of tea...n the hubbs of mine refuses to help!! So here is something straight from my heart.....You guys are special, a gr8 n rocking pair!

Lemme first give u a brief dekko of this couple! Sabs comes from what I call a 'English Literate' family i.e a place where they eat, drink sleep english literature n for whom religion is a matter of personal belief! No church going, no religious afflictions whatever! Now contrast this with Bins who comes from a from a orthodox Malyalee achaayan (read Christan) family (well didn't our hero almost go on to become a priest ...Sabi Thank ur stars tht he decided to opt out!) who were into farming, rubber tapping n such!!! N now their personalities...our heroine steps in straight out of english classics.... a wee bit dreamy, (v v v v) idealistic, impractical, romantic, exuberant, nomadic ....you get the flow hey! N our hero........A seemingly rooted practical, level headed gentleman but as Sabi says n which I can vouch for a big kiddo inside

A great divide hey?? It has never ceased to surprise me as to how these two completely contrasting souls have come in seamlessly together!! A couple who perfectly compliment each other!

Here is wishing you guys many more haapy anniverseries together! You guys really rock!!

Edited to change the pic taken on their anniv. Dont miss the boyish grin on Bin's face(remeber the kiddo in him) !!

PS: The anniv was yesterday. The post comes in a day late...blame my office for it!

Happy Pink Chaddi Day!!

"As a token of my gratitude for mentioning me in ur blogs...here's a gift" ~~ Sabina Zacharias
Thnx Sabi yet again!

An Engaging Affair....

I and my hubbs...ok ok lemme take the complete credit here ...are a sucker for celebrations!!! At the drop a hat I need a gift n a party....well our almost empty bank accounts speaks for itself!!

Hmmm so the latest excuse for a party was the 2nd anniv of our engagement...hee hee hee!!! As you'll agree this occasion befits a candle-lit dinner n a gift to make my day! Now the candle lit dinner is the easy part - after all my hubbs is partner-in-crime as far as eating out is concerned! But the 'gifting' part is where the twist comes........ buying or rather remembering to buy gifts just doesnt fit into my hubb's scheme of things!! So a week in advance he should be cajoled and reminded and given more than subtle hints to ensure tht I get my gift!!

Ha even before u start empathizing on the amount of work I gotta do, lemme tell you its just the start!! The entire day is spent in researching the 'chosen place' for dinner..... no mean task considering it should be done under the glaring eyes of my boss...Thank You Microsoft for the 'Alt' + 'Tab'! (For the computer illiterates, this shortcut is used to shift between windows)

After a thorough study the 'chosen one' for the night out was hotel 'Umerkot' .........'Umerkot' take a bow for this privilege :-p. N ho yeah yeah after the dinner I take a bow for a work well done.....Umerkot lives up to its name (This place deserves a post in itself...so all u foodies out there watch out this space!).
The only hiccup at Umerkot was that they had no provision for candle lit dinner....Not that I had noticed it...U C I was so engrossed with the food :-p. N then comes my fav dessert time......N this time a a 'Candle Lit' dessert!!!!!! N before u go bwondering what it is....lemme enlighten u!! Our desserts "Angoori Kufli" n "Rabdi" came with a candle in between!!! For a sec I thot the steward was acting funny........he had this goofy smile when I had ordered them n now he brings it along with a candle!!!! (BTW the service there is impeccable...always at your service but never intruding into your privacy.)
Ha only later did I know the real story! Ma ever resourceful hubbs had made up for the 'candle lit' dinner with a 'Candle Lit' dessert!! howwzzaaatttt?? N to imagine that he had arranged for all this beforehand including the dessert selection of "Angoori Kufli" n "Rabdi"....It was just a co-incidence that my picks were same.....n this also explains the goofy smile the steward had!! What makes this extra special is the fact that my hubbs is not this mushy mushy kinds n to imagine that he took the effort to arrange all this means a lot to me :)

N now coming to the other significant event of the day - the gifts!! Phew after all the hungama......I didnt pick up any for my hubbs :(. I swear I had made a sincere effort there but nothing matched my expectations :) My hubbs did better than that...He gifted me with these cute butterfly earings ...of course he missed all the subtle hints on the gift that I was expecting!!! Ha but no worries Valetines day isnt far away!! But the best of them all was this collage Sabi (No prizes for guessing who she is) had gifted......... Nice one hey!!!

PS: I did get my hubbs a turtle neck T-shirt a full week later. N another twist is tht the Satyam fiasco happened on this very day......all in all I am sure you all agree tht the 'Engagement Day' was indeed an engaging affair!!!!!

Ye blog sab(h)i padhe......

Last week was a long one...lots happening at the work place .........the Satyam Fiasco, the job insecurity, anxious calls from near n dear ones, the fast approaching project deadline, last minute confusions on whether to to go outstation, job hunt.....Ho yeah it was indeed a week with too much on the platter! So much so that by Friday evening all I was famished n all I to was grab something quick to eat n hit the sack!!

But surprise surprise.....the dinner menu had some yummy home made kerala fish curry, fish fry n 'morr curry' (roughly translated to curd Curry)...all my favourites!! N hey wait the surprise doesn't end here...after this I was treated to a bottle of 'Canberry' Bacardi...my fav flavour!!! N ho now with a full stomach a light hangover(ho yeah even a glass of wine gives me a kick......) all I had to do was hit the bed!! But hey my royal treatment doesn't end so soon..... Am treated to a bed time story of 'Rumpeltilskin' n a 'lori' of 'Stopping by woods on a snowy evening ~~ Robert Frost' (The lori singer seems a big a English literate lover hey!'')!!! Pure heaven I tell you.....

Ha I know many of u would be having your 'J' cells ...after all how many of u at the ripe age of 26 have the luxury of being lulled to sleep after a tiring week!! BTW Wondering who this archangel is??? Ladies and gentleman lemme take the privilege of Introducing to you my best friend, my nanny(:-p), the best cook ever..........please put your hands together for "Sabina Zacharias" ...Yeah yeah the 'better Half' of Sabi-Binoy who once again- as usual pop into my blogs!!)

Sabi dedicating this to you!! Thank u for being what u r...sweet, stupidly generous 'n' unselfish, caring n all the other blah blah blah! Ho yeah one of the best to have happened last must be getting to know you!! Ok now enuf of all the senti stuuf........Sabi go n amke sense of the title courtesy Pravin :) n stop picking up the grammatical mistakes int his post!! I am no EFL student of urs........

PS: This weekend again saw a repeat performance of this show!!!!

The Satyam Spirit....Proud to be a Satyamite!!

Ho yeah am employed with the now (in)famous satyam Computers. But no this blog isn't to discuss abt the Satyam fiasco.....Will leave that to media! Thou I think its time somebody pulls up media for painting what is at times a completely wrong picture....

Wondering whats left in Satyam to be still proud of it?well am still proud of being a Satyamite......am proud of the Satyam spirit!!The spirit that is holding the employees together! Do not go by what media says...yeah most of us have a fear of insecurity in us but the most overwhelming of the feelings is the spirit of unity...The spirit among employees to still hold the Satyam flag high!! Trust me when I say that there are guys who are busy working day in day out on their projects and haven't even thot of posting their resumes yet! N no we do not keep hanging around the pantry and discussing the exit options as media wants you to believe!
Think this emotional attachment to a company is foolish?? Well our loyalty is not to a individual but to a company....cause we believe Satyam is bigger than any individual! N as to what Mr.Raju did, I agree it was unfortunate but please do not forget that he had provided livelihood to more than 50 k families including me and I personally believe he did try his best to pull out the company from this crisis but a few wrong calculations landed him and all of us in this soup!! No, I am not trying to defend him...but yeah my heart goes out to him!!!

One of my colleagues Hemanth (https://imailhyd.satyam.com/OWA/redir.aspx?C=4f72dc9450d6450187e8a7a7cd38ac74&URL=http%3a%2f%2fhemanthkakumanu.blogspot.com%2f2009%2f01%2fsatyam-we-stand-by-you-till-last-minute.html ) in a email to me says "I agree he did a mistake bt we have survive the company ....its our own company nt Raju family's.... I cnt even think of some one splitting this org in to parts and distribute.... I am still providing 24/7 support to the project.... Just sleeping 3-4 hrs since last two days cause any small slippage at this point would be attributed to this fiasco.......i am ready to wrk without salry bt at onsite i will ask thm to give half sal becoz we cant survive here without money."

N no Hemanth is not a one off case....The turn out of Satyamites for the 'Spirit of Satyam' Campaign two days after the fiasco talks in itself!!! Ho yeah its this spirits among Satyamites that makes me say "Proud to be a Satyamite"!!!!

Bye Bye 2008....Hey 2009!!

Bidding bye bye to 2008 and leaving u all with a collage of 2008!!! 2009, Here we come!!!

Oye Santa Hoye Banta

This weekend saw us having a gala Christmas night...yeah a full week early; u c we believe in starting early......remember "The early bird catches the worm"....But this funda applies only when having fun :)

This Christmas was kinda my first! Now b4 u go bonkers wondering what I was doing till the ripe old age of 26 lemme clarify.....this was the first of its kind that I celebrated in its true style...complete with our own SantaClaus, Christmas Tree, Home brewed wine n home baked caked .........cool hey!!
The story goes like this.... The only 'couple Friends' who we have...yeah the same old Sabi-Binoy who keep popping in into every other blog of mine invited us over for a Christmas Night. The confusion over the venue - Our Place vs their place was on till last minute....But when Pappy decided that he is not budging out anywhere the venue was auto selected to 'their place' !!

We (i.e me n my hubbs) make our usual last minute entry loaded with gifts for all....N of course half of them weren't even gift wrapped....so much for our guest-o-sense!! N who else but santa (actually binoy in a Corny santa mask) arrives to open the door and what a entry it was!! Beautiful carols playing in background n a fully decked up christmas tree!! (which has been duly hijacked to my place after the party :-p)

The party started over glass of rum(U c the home brewed wine was a super duper flop....but well Rum comes close) n Bacradi Breezer (No rum for me)! Then came the most exciting part.....Opening of gifts! But hey wait, where is the Santa to distribute the gifts........so over a round of 'Chits' Binoy is the chosen one to play Santa!!! N what a 'Santa' he made......The Santa Cap was a white 'chunni' made into a turban, The red white coat was a red Chikan Work Salwar kameez....ha ha ha we had a perfect 'Desi Santa'(Name courtesy Pravin :) ) N not to forget the pillow stuffed over his tummy which made him look '9 months pregnant'...ho ho ho!!!!N the came the gift distribution (much awaited by me).......n what a gift galore it was!! Personalized coffee mug, Personalized candle stand (Inspired by me :) ), cutest Santa caps, CDs, Jeanie pants........

Then came a dancing session n what a performance it was.... Mummy N pappy, Me n Pappy, Me N Sabi, Pappy N Pravin, Pappy N Binoy n of course the best of ll Sabi....Just went onto prove that there are more left leggers to gimme company !
The party ended with the drunken group wailing out 'Carols' (yeah 'wailing is the word) ......actually English poems (rolling of eyes)...u c we have 'English literate' group out here.......Thnx Sabi-Binoy 4 everything n making it a memmorable day 4 me!!!!

Not to forget another imp milestone of the day......I got my first bouquet from my hubbs ....yeah after 2 good years of meeting!!!! The last I got was a plastic flower (I know,,,, even I was like aa plastic flower huh ..... @#$#$%$%^ ) ....but then in his usual amicable style he comes up with a one liner..... "My love for u will last till this flower fades away"!

Ha on this happy note I sign off and bade good bye to 2008!! Happy X-Mas and a gr8 New year to all of u!!!

Book Review: Hover Car Racer

As mentioned in my previous blog my current fav writer is the handsome Matthew Reiiley ......Notice the two 'T''s in 'Matthew' in contrast with the more common 'mathew'.....something to do with getting lucky with numerology he?? Ha keeping my stupid observations aside the latest of his books that I finished reading ....yeah, finished it a min back sitting in the comfort of my desk @ office....come on yaar, sab kooch chaltha he...afterall its a Friday....TGIF!!!!!

The reason for writing this blog - apart from the fact that am jobless- is the story line of the book! All the books of Matthew Railley are all in some way or the other linked to archeology and each a thriller and a must read. But "Hover Car Racer" is pleasantly different......A completely new story line on 'Racing with Hover Cars'....whoa that's a big shift from Archeology to Car Racing and once again full credit to Matheew's Railley...... Homework perfectly done and a seamless story line!!! Read more about Hover Cars at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hovercar.
Back to the book, it revolves around this young boy in a small desert in Australia who dreams to make it big in the world of Hover Car racing! As in his other books, the hero here is a genuinely nice person with no malice n how despite all kinds of pitfalls he makes it! The story is set in future - but the only futuristic thing about it is the technology. The liberal references and the perfect amalgam of all sports is so perfect that even somebody like me -who is completely ignorant of Car Racing -enjoyed the book thoroughly! Trust me there are a few literal 'Nail Biting' episodes here....... Another must read from Mathew Railley! The boojk makes u believe once again in the old saying "World does conspire to give u wht u desire"!
A few interesting anecdotes here.......
  1. Seen the bollywood movie 'Ta ra rum pum' where Saif Ali khan is a car racer (ala our hero in 'Hover Car Racer') and a super duper one at that...well can our bollywood heros be anything but that? Everything goes fine till he meets with a nasty accident (a setup by his competitor) and then his confidence, finance, family everything hits a all time low till in again a typical bollywood isshtyle he regains his past glory!! As you may have already guessed there is a similar episode in this book too but minus all Indian senti values ! Ofcourse am not trying to suggest any pirated lifts here......cause if u try putting together the books\movies from where our bollywood directors take their 'inspirations' ,the list will be endless!!!
  2. The other interesting similarity I figured out is the subtle similarity between 'Hover Car Racer' and 'Harry Potter'! Doesnt the team of Jason, Bug and Sally (the characters of our book) remind you of Harry Potter, Ron and Hermonie!!! Well must be again my imagination working over time.........
So now its time for me to ctrl + alt +del (for all non techies there - it means locking the comp) and say "ta-ta"," bye-bye", "Happy Weekend". BTW this weekend- what with this cold, gloomy weather-seems a perfect time to curl up with a book and for those of you who havent read Matthew Reiiley I would for sure suggest a dose of it!
